CityWide Celebrates Dayton's Business Community

Dayton Ohio, April 24, 2008—CityWide Development Corporation will review its 2007 results and announce the winners of its annual awards at the CityWide 2008 Annual Dinner on Thursday,
April 24.

The Annual Dinner celebrates the outstanding accomplishments of businesses and leaders in the Dayton community. Awards will be presented to:

Harry Seifert -Outstanding Leadership
            “Harry demonstrates the leadership necessary to drive economic development forward in the City of Dayton. His leadership has been invaluable throughout 2007,” said Steve Budd, President, CityWide Development.

Elaine Allison -Banker of the Year
            Elaine Allison, National City Bank, worked closely throughout 2007 to facilitate financing for multiple businesses in the City of Dayton. Partnering with CityWide is an example of collaboration which benefits both businesses and the community.

IDCAST –Economic Development Project of the Year
            Through a combined effort of the University of Dayton, UDRI, and AFRL; IDCAST (Institute for Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technology) is an example of collaboration with a goal of boosting sensor technology research, development and commercialization.

Northriver Coffee House and Eatery- Small Business of the Year
            “The Northriver Coffee House and Eatery is exactly the type of business that helps revitalize a neighborhood.  Bob Littlejohn’s investment in the community is invaluable to both residents and workers in the area,” said Steve Budd, President, CityWide Development.

Once again, in 2007 individuals stepped up to make it another year marked with many successes. Through joint efforts with a multitude of partners, CityWide provided nearly $5 million in financial assistance. These loans helped fund 38 different projects and retained 997 Dayton-based jobs.

In keeping with the CitiPlan20/20: Focus 2010, Dayton’s long-term economic development plan, CityWide’s efforts are strategically focused on specific “clusters”-- groupings of interrelated industries which the region specializes. The 997 jobs created were within the following industries:

Data Management and Sensors 276
Advanced Manufacturing & Materials  449
Business Retention and Expansion   172
Heritage and Tourism   50

CityWide’s Mortgage Credit Counseling Services educated 219 students about all aspects of owning a home. More than 152 purchased a home and 81 of those bought a home in the City of Dayton.
