Retention And Expansion

Nationally, retention and expansion of existing businesses account for more than 80 percent of total job creation. Executing a strategic and thorough retention and expansion program is the most critical component of CitiPlan 20/20, the City of Dayton's 20-year economic development strategy. It is essential that the City continue to utilize and enhance its participation in the Business Retention Program that was established as a result of the original version of CitiPlan 2020. The program coordinates Retention and Expansion efforts among the City of Dayton’s Economic Development Department, CityWide Development Corporation, Downtown Dayton Partnership, Montgomery County and the Chamber of Commerce. This collaborative effort is enhanced with an ancillary support network of more than 50 service providers who provide beneficial service to the region’s businesses.

The Retention and Expansion strategy includes initiatives to ensure that the City and its economic development partners provide the support necessary to service a business environment that is faster paced, requires more flexibility and risk, and is much more dependent upon collaboration with academia and government.
