JULY 2ND GROUNDBREAKING SCHEDULED FOR TECH TOWN’S CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY ACCELERATOR

IDCAST will be CTA’s Anchor Tenant

Dayton, Ohio, June 29, 2007 — Local, state and federal officials will be on hand Monday, July 2 to mark the groundbreaking for the Creative Technology Accelerator, the first new building to be constructed at Dayton’s Tech Town campus. Congressman Mike Turner and Dayton Mayor Rhine McLin will join other dignitaries and local partners for the event, which takes place at 2 p.m.

Located at the corner of Monument Avenue and Taylor Street, the Creative Technology Accelerator (CTA) will be a three-story multi-tenant office building housing smaller, established businesses that are striving to develop and commercialize new technology products. Containing a total of 45,000 square feet, approximately 20,000 square feet of the CTA will be dedicated to lab space.

The anchor tenant of the CTA will be IDCAST—the Institute for Development and Commercialization of Advanced Sensor Technology. A combined effort of the University of Dayton and several partner organizations, IDCAST will facilitate and drive collaboration between government, industry and academia that will boost sensor technology research, development and commercialization. Partners in the project include University of Dayton Research Institute, U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory Sensors Directorate, Ohio State University, Wright State University, Miami University, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo and many others.

The IDCAST facility is expected to consist of approximately 20,000 square feet of the CTA and should be fully functional in 2008. It will include space for academic, industry and federal labs. As a recipient of a $28 million grant from the Ohio Third Frontier Commission, IDCAST will bring hundreds of new, high-paying, high-tech jobs to Dayton and have a huge economic impact on the entire state.

The Architectural Group, a Dayton firm, is the architect for the CTA, while CityWide is serving as project manager for the construction project. “We are very close to naming a builder for the CTA project,” said Steve Budd, president of CityWide. “It will be someone that shares our commitment to excellence for this facility, especially since our goal is to have the building LEED certified. CityWide is proud to serve as CTA project manager and we recognize the potentially critical importance this new facility to the future of Dayton.”

The CTA is expected to be LEED certified, meaning it will meet standards defined in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. Established by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2000, the LEED system is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.

"We are absolutely thrilled to reach this important milestone in the development of the Tech Town campus,” said Mayor Rhine McLin. “This has been a rigorous process which required the help and involvement of many different players from all corners of the community. To be able to come together now for a groundbreaking event illustrates that our collective hard work is paying off. This is a major achievement in our efforts to transition to a creative economic base supported by high-tech companies."
